Used Electric Cars for Sale in Newport Beach, CA

Newport Beach drives electric at more than six times the national rate

About 13% of the cars registered in Newport Beach are fully electric, against about 2% nationwide. Here's the climb since 2020, with Newport Beach now at more than six times the national rate.

How Newport Beach does EVs

• A more varied EV fleet than most of the county. Tesla is a slimmer majority of Newport Beach's electric cars than it is across the county, and Mercedes-Benz and Audi EVs are each about twice as common in Newport Beach as across Orange County, with BMW about half again as common.
• The 2023 wave. About a quarter of Newport Beach's 2023-model-year cars are electric, the highest share of any full model year, and 2023s are also the most common used EVs on nearby lots.
• Biggest movers since 2023. Tesla still added the most electric cars in Newport Beach over the past three years, but Mercedes-Benz gained about three times as much ground in the city as it did countywide.

About this data: These figures come from Bestest's analysis of California DMV vehicle registrations (January 1, 2026, the most recent available; brand growth compares the January 2023 and January 2026 files) and the US Department of Energy's national count of registered vehicles (year-end 2025). Fuel type and model year are reported for every registered vehicle. The DMV leaves the make blank for some vehicles; Tesla is named for nearly all of its cars, so Tesla's share is a conservative figure and other brands' counts are minimums.
