Used Hybrids for Sale in Costa Mesa, CA

Hybrids have grown by about two-thirds in Costa Mesa since 2020

About 7% of the cars registered in Costa Mesa are hybrids, against about 5% nationwide. Here's the climb since 2020, with Costa Mesa now comfortably above the national rate.

How Costa Mesa does hybrids

• Toyota country. Toyota accounts for a slim majority of Costa Mesa's hybrids, a bigger slice than across the county, and Ford hybrids are about twice as common in Costa Mesa as across Orange County, with Kia about half again as common.
• The 2025 wave. About a fifth of Costa Mesa's 2025-model-year cars are hybrids, the highest share of any full model year, and 2025s are also the most common used hybrids on nearby lots.
• Biggest movers since 2023. Toyota still added the most hybrids in Costa Mesa over the past three years, but Ford gained about twice as much ground in the city as it did countywide.

About this data: These figures come from Bestest's analysis of California DMV vehicle registrations (January 1, 2026, the most recent available; brand growth compares the January 2023 and January 2026 files) and the US Department of Energy's national count of registered vehicles (year-end 2025). Fuel type and model year are reported for every registered vehicle. "Hybrid" means a conventional hybrid; plug-in hybrids are counted separately. The DMV leaves the make blank for some vehicles; Toyota is named for nearly all of its cars, so Toyota's share is a conservative figure and other brands' counts are minimums.
