The Mazda CX-5 is widely regarded as the most engaging compact SUV to drive, with interior materials and refinement that match European near-luxury rivals. The 2021 CX-5 earned IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus, and was recognized as the only vehicle to achieve the highest rating in the then new IIHS side impact test, while also earning a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2021 Mazda CX-5 was named a Car and Driver 10Best winner, the fourth consecutive year that Mazda's compact crossover SUV has received the award.
